History, Objectives, and Goals Aadamiga is a non-profit organization established in 1987 in Mogadishu, Somalia. Aadamiga's objective is to provide internally displaced people (IDPs) with tools to become self-sufficient. One of Aadamiga's main goals is to assist IDPs and other vulnerable communities in Somalia with food, clean water and education. Aadamiga’s first project in 1987 was in microfinance, crediting women loans to expand their small businesses. That project and capacity building projects were funded by Oxfam USA, NOVIB, CIDA and the African Development Foundation. At the start of the civil war in 1988, Aadamiga assisted IDPs that fled northern Somalia when the central government was particularly brutal in that region. In 1991, after the overthrow of the Somali government, Aadamiga assisted IDPs in Mogadishu by distributing food until the region became too unstable for the NGO to function, at which point activities were suspended. In 2006, the situation in Somalia deteriorated rapidly when conflict broke out, and Aadamiga re-started programs and raised funds from Somali Diaspora to provide clean water to IDPs in Afgoye, outside of Mogadishu.
